Pro Hac Vice
Authority
Permission to appear pro hac vice in a bankruptcy case or adversary proceeding is granted pursuant to Local Rules W.D. Wash. LCR 83.1(d).
Application
Attorneys seeking permission to appear pro hac vice must submit an application to the bankruptcy court. Please note the following:
- The application must demonstrate a particular need to appear and participate in a particular case.
- A separate application must be submitted for each adversary and each main bankruptcy case.
Responsibilities of local counsel
The pro hac vice applicant is required to associate with local counsel. Local counsel must
- be admitted to practice in the Western District of Washington,
- maintain a law office in the Western District of Washington, and
- sign all pleadings prior to filing.
Electronic filing process
The Bankruptcy Court for the Western District of Washington is a mandatory electronic filing court. The steps for electronic filing include the following:
1. The application to appear pro hac vice and uploaded order are electronically filed by local counsel, using local counsel’s Electronic Case Filing (“ECF”) account.
2. The related fee associated is paid electronically via pay.gov at the time of filing the application.
3. After entry of the order approving the pro hac vice application the pro hac admittee may request an ECF account with the Bankruptcy Court.
