Assignment and Reassignment of Cases Filed in Seattle and Northern Counties

In anticipation of the retirement of Judge Marc L. Barreca, the Court will begin the process of reassigning Judge Barreca’s pending case load and cease to assign him new cases. Details are set out in the Court’s General Order 2024-2.

In the General Order, “Everett Cases” refers to Chapter 13 and Chapter 7 cases where the debtor’s county of residence/principal place of business or assets is Island, San Juan, Skagit, Snohomish, or Whatcom County, and “Seattle Cases” refers to (a) Chapter 7 cases where the debtor’s county of residence/principal place of business or assets is King County; and (b) Chapter 9, 11, 12 and 15 cases where the debtor’s county of residence/principal place of business or assets is Clallam, Island, Jefferson, King, Kitsap, San Juan, Skagit, Snohomish and Whatcom County.

New Everett cases filed after April 14, 2024, and any related adversary proceedings, will be assigned to Judges Christopher M. Alston and Timothy W. Dore. Judge Alston will hear newly filed Everett Cases on a combined remote calendar.  Judge Dore will hear newly filed Everet Cases on his Seattle calendar. Judge Barreca’s pending Everett cases, and any related adversary proceedings, will be reassigned to Judges Alston and Dore on or before June 29, 2024.

New Seattle cases filed after April 14, 2024, and any related adversary proceedings, will be assigned to Judges Alston and Dore. Judge Barreca’s pending Seattle cases, and any related adversary proceedings, will be reassigned to Judges Alston and Dore on or before June 23, 2024.

Note: The dates listed in the Order and below are subject to change due to the demands of our CM/ECF System. The Court will continue to update this information. Reassignment will be reflected on the case docket. Prior to formal reassignment, matters should continue to be set in front of the currently assigned judge.
