Externships

Externship Opportunities

The United States Bankruptcy Court for the Western District of Washington has externship opportunities available for qualified law school candidates.  Fall, winter, spring and summer positions are available. Externship positions are unpaid, but law school credit may be available for successful completion of a judicial externship. It is the extern's responsibility to coordinate with his or her law school if credit is sought.

Top Ten Reasons to Clerk and Extern

Applications are generally accepted up to three months in advance of the quarter/semester for which the student is applying.  The applicant will be contacted if he or she is selected for an interview.

Applicants interested in an extern position should submit the following:

a) cover letter;

b) resume;

c) law school transcript; and

d) writing sample (not to exceed 10 pages)

Applicants should specify which quarter/semester they are applying for. As the Western District of Washington has courthouses in both Tacoma and Seattle, the applicant should also indicate if he or she has a preference between the two locations.
